Its surprising enough, why I never wrote any blogs when I was in Singapore. A hell lot of times I wanted to jus start writing about all the crazy experiences I had there. Every day was literally a new day. So crazy to have a tight schedule, with work, appointments, business meetings, lunches, dates, movies and travels !
This was a curtain raiser to the kind of life I would probably be leading once I achieve my goal of an MBA from an international b-school. I know it will be more hectic, more scheduled but the truth is I loved every moment of it. I enjoyed every microsecond of it ! The only thing I know is now what I want to do to be able to lead the kind of life , to have that independence, some money, some friends ...
and I did some really funny bizarre completely crazy things that I could've never done maybe here.. like learning belly dancing from a Moroccan Belly Dancer, prawn fishinng with my chinese colleagues and then barbequeing the poor prawns, dragon boating with a lot of corporate honchos, wakeboarding with some funny people, snorkelling with a german in the south China sea, playing with rabbits and hamsters, getting pictures clicked up and close with tigers and dolphins alike, travellin alone in Thailand, seeing a live concert in the middle of a river, experiencing a chinese concert in the Esplanade, mountain biking at the Pulau Ubin, cycling by the East Coast beach, attendin the 43rd National Day at Singapore, saw the ND Parade, did some rock climbing in the rain, when I was running 100 degree temperature and had not eaten breakfast, washed my clothes,my utensils and my bathroom, bought groceries .. so much .. that l look back to those 3 fantabulous months ..
I was delighted to eat so many different cuisines...Thai, Indonesian, Malaysian, Perankan, authentic Chinese, Spanish, Italian, Mexican, Dutchm, German and French.. but haha, I still want to say Indian food rocks! But l love mexican too al the time! I also went bonkers over Starbucks coffee and Oreo Cheese cakes.. its heavenly.. hmmm, and Lindt white milk chocolate , so expensive but l spurlged money on it and never shared it with anyone ;-) I also drank a lot of coconut water there.. al the time!
l can only say 'those were the best days of my life also'.. along with other best days :)_There were times when I went lonely, missed my family and friends but those were far and few, coz I spent a big amount on the phone calls and google talk and skype rock anyway :)
People ask me the best and worst thing I felt about in Singapore.
Two undoubtedly best things were the diversity and the proximity to the SE Asian countries.
Diversity is such a cool aspect there- I was sharing an apartment with a dutch, a korean-german, a turkish and an austrian person, I was the Indian and the landlords were Chinese!
I dont think I can ever be in such a diverse environment in any country like US or Canada or wherver! It s always an interesting blend of colors and languages!
In my office, I could hear people speakin all sort s of languages which was such an interestin thing!
I am so fascinated with this diversity thing, I enjoyed so much with all these people, though sometimes I did miss my Indian counterparts but it was such an awesome learning experience to be amongst people from so many parts of the world!
The 2nd best thing is that Singapore is such a model country, right in the center of South East Asia and that makes it closer to some really beautiful destinations where you can travel a little cheaper. I travelled twice in Malaysia-to Kuala Lampur, Genting and then to Rawa Islands, I went to Batam in Indonesia and then to Bangkok in Thailand. In between al this,I travelled every street of Singapore which I completely fell in love with!
Okie, the not so interestin thing is that since Singapore is such a new country, a young one, it doesnt have much of a history and everythin is mostly man-made!
But the cooler part is that even if it is man made, it never looks like it is! Every inch of it is so naturally made that one can never sense the artificiality in the surroundings!
The public transport system is a perfect model-so convenient, safe and cheap.. everyone from the peon of the company to the CEO travel in it..I salute the person who planned and pppl who implemented this system..
I miss being there, but I am glad to have had that experience to live in that diverse global environment, able to intermingle in that harmonious society and be a part of the multi lingual culture!
Its impossible to end ths blog because l cannot stop talkin bout this admirable country -city..but l would just suggest invest in it.. go travel there, live there or jus be there.. it s a great place to b e!
